Life Transitions
Grief & loss
I work with adults at every stage of life: young adults finding their footing, people in the thick of careers and relationships, and aging adults navigating new chapters. Together we look at anxiety, depression, anger, relationship challenges, and the periods of uncertainty that come with big transitions.
I have a strong focus on both men's issues and women's issues, and I pay attention to how privilege, power, and identity shape the way we move through our lives and relationships. Supporting people through grief and loss and major life changes is a central passion of mine.
My style is warm, interactive, and engaged. You will never have to wonder what I'm thinking. Clients often tell me they appreciate the grounded environment I create and the collaborative way we work side by side, moving toward clarity and steadiness.
I take a relational and collaborative approach, blending Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and psychodynamic work. In plain English: practical tools for the present, deeper exploration of the patterns underneath. I also bring in mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing to support reflection, insight, and real behavior change.
I use examples and analogies constantly, and I'm not above borrowing from philosophy when it helps a decision come into focus. Much of my work centers on marital and relationship struggles helping couples and individuals strengthen communication, address conflict, and build healthier connections.
Michael earned his Master of Social Work from Rutgers University. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New Jersey and as Clinical Director he helps shape the care every client receives at Rubin Therapy. He sees clients virtually across both states.
Daily walks with my Australian Cattle Dog. They give me time to reflect and recharge.
What do you do to de-stress?
Soccer and Formula 1. I love the strategy, skill, and teamwork in both.
What are you watching or following right now?
I'm always collecting teachable moments from TV and movies. Sometimes one line from a show says it better than a whole textbook.
What's one fun fact most people don't know about you?
