Dyadic work allows your therapist to focus closely on the interaction, communication, and emotional dynamics between two people — rather than working with a larger family system. It’s especially helpful when one relationship feels particularly strained.
Adult relationships, ages 18 and up
All dyadic work at Rubin Therapy is for adults.
Recommendations are made thoughtfully based on clinical fit and therapist availability — your therapist will help you decide whether dyadic work is the right format, or whether individual or couples therapy might fit better.
Adult siblings want to repair or strengthen the relationship
An adult parent and child are experiencing ongoing conflict or communication challenges
Caregiving stress is changing how a family pair relates
A recent transition; illness, separation, loss — has left a relationship feeling strained
Family dynamics feel tense, confusing, or emotionally charged
You want support strengthening attachment or connection over time
Rubin clinicians use developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and relational approaches, drawing from attachment-based work, psychodynamic therapy, somatic approaches, and mindfulness-informed care.
Techniques are used thoughtfully and flexibly, always grounded in respect for each individual and the relationship itself.
Sessions are relational, supportive, and paced with care, with attention to communication patterns, emotional responses, and relational dynamics between you both.
Sessions are 45–55 minutes and often scheduled weekly, especially at the beginning. Both participants attend each session together.
